Saugeen Shores United Football Club (SSUFC) held its annual Challenger Sport Soccer Camp from July 16th to 20th with international coaching.
There were 170 players from the ages of three to 15 who participated in the week-long event learning soccer skills while having fun playing the game.
The five Five coaches from Challenger Sport divided the players into groups with a coach teaching each group specific skills.
The coaches, who came from Ireland, Australia, New Orleans and England, stayed with host families in Saugeen Shores. Not only is it an opportunity for local families to interact with someone from another country, it also gave the coaches an insight to Saugeen Shores and Lake Huron.
Coach Edward Walker of England said that this is one of the largest groups of young players that the coaches have been involved with at one time. “We are really trying to instill a love for the game at a young age and there is no doubt that the popularity of soccer, or as we call it i the U.K., rugby, is increasing.”
