Mother Nature unleashes her fury with a severe storm

Mother Nature unleashed her fury yesterday (Sept. 7th) with violent winds and lashing rains mixed with hail that swept across Lake Huron.  The skies turned ominous as the storm moved closer to land signalling what was to come.

Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores) suffered considerable damage when trees were snapped off and uprooted.

Roads are closed

Saugeen Shores Fire Service had several roads closed that were impassable due to fallen trees.

At the Port Elgin harbour, the main beach was flooded, two docks broke away, a boat was tossed on to the harbour rocks and a sailboat’s sails were left in tatters.

The streets were strewn with broken trees and limbs throughout the entire community.

On Goderich Street opposite Independent, power poles were snapped off and leaned against trees.  Thousands were without power for several hours.

Another cluster of possible storm cells are expected this evening (Sept. 8th) but are not anticipated to have the strength of yesterday’s.
