Today, May 5th, is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S), also known as Red Dress Day.
In Canada, the rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people are disproportionately six per cent higher.
Red Dress Day is a day of reflection and honours the lives of MMIWG2S by raising awareness of this ongoing national tragedy, and by standing in solidarity with those who have lost their loved ones.
