New EMS building gets County budget approval

At the recent meeting of Bruce County, the Paramedic Services Committee approved the Paramedic Building project that will go ahead in Port Elgin.

Allen Hastings Ltd. was awarded the tender at a total cost of $7,909,000 (+HST).  The Committee also approved the Paramedic Project Budget in the amount of $9,407,627.  The treasurer was authorized to apply for a loan through the Ontario Infrastructure and Lands Corporation (OILC) for up to $10,000,000 with a 30-year amortization for the project.

The facility will feature meeting room spaces, hub gymnasium, and hoteling work-stations for staff during inclement weather and power outages as it will be fully generator supported. Additional parking spaces have been added to this site to alleviate parking issues at the Lakeshore Hub.

There will also be additional offices for future growth and a paramedic simulator lab for  staff training. The facility will serve as the headquarters for Paramedic Services in Bruce County.

The move of Paramedic Services administration staff to the location will also allow for reallocation of space to other Departments that require it within the Administration Centre.
