The new Port Elgin apartment building on Waterloo Street that is going up by Barry’s Construction is well underway.
The five-story apartment development located behind Elgin Lodge and adjacent to Skyline Apartments is a new modular concept of construction. Units are pre-fabricated off-site and then installed via a massive crane.

The development will include a mix of unit sizes ranging from three apartment buildings of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. In addition, the overall subdivision plan will now accommodate more than 400 units that also include townhomes and single-family dwellings.
When the proposed revised development plan came before Council in August, 2022, there were still several questions regarding the amount of green space and whether there would be ‘affordable’ units.
Council approved the revised plan which was then submitted to County Planning for final approval.
