New Principal and New Improvements for local school

This first week of September is all about back-to-school for students across the country.

In Bruce County, many schools have hired numerous new teachers and principals and, in Southampton, G. C. Huston Public School has a new Principal.

                                                    Hugh Morrison

Hugh Morrison, formerly Principal of Normanby Community School in Ayton, has moved into the Principal’s office in Southampton.

For Morrison who was once a student at G. C. Huston School and whose parents still live in Southampton, it is “like coming home but I know I have big shoes to fill”, referring to previous Principal Dan Russell. “I also know the staff here at G. C. are fantastic and we are all looking forward to getting the new school year underway.”

The School has also undergone $2 Million in major physical changes over the summer.  Large new windows have been installed along with new lighting, ceilings and paint throughout that have made the school bright and cheery.  In addition, there is a new kindergarten classroom to accommodate the upsurge in enrollment, new HVAC system and new roof.  Outside, landscaping has been started at the rear of the school with more improvements to come.
