New rec complex will be a game changer says reader

To the Editor:

As our city prepares to bring the new rec complex online, we can get excited about what a game changer this facility will be. It will become a real community gathering place for people of all ages. Expected to last 50 plus years, the plans reflect what is needed now and into the future.

One of the important features is the 8 lane pool. There is a reason this pool configuration has become the standard for communities like

Owen Sound, Orillia, Belleville, Wilmot, Pickering, Milton and the Soo. 8 lanes offer programming flexibility and even the ability to split the pool between deep end/shallow end to allow instruction tailored to all users.

Let me highlight the experience of one of these towns mentioned above. Wilmot’s wonderful facility is out in the country but is well used. Several athletic competitions a year attract 500 users from all over Ontario. They stay in nearby hotels and go to local eateries.

Wilmot couldn’t host competitions before they had an 8 lane pool.

By the way, their walking track is awesome! Parents with strollers, teams doing moving activation and older folks getting a workout done happens all year, especially in the winter.

Let’s make this facility the best we can, for now and for the future.
