It’s only two days away … the Paralympic Qualifier Marathon.
After a time, when so many marathons and events around the world have been cancelled, local renowned Canadian champion athlete, Josh Cassidy, created and organized this event to provide an opportunity for his fellow Canadian athletes to achieve a qualifying marathon performance on his home turf.
The race will feature Canadians Alexandre Dupont of Quebec, Tristan Smyth of British Columbia, and Ben Brown of Nova Scotia, all vying to go to the next Paralympics in Tokyo this summer.
This is a unique chance for the community of Saugeen Shores to watch an Olympic wheelchair race in person … from their front yards in Port Elgin.
The race will also be live streamed on the Moshn.fit app for free. Following the race there will be an opportunity to participate in a virtual q+a with Josh and other athletes. There will also be fitness challenges for you and families and giveaways.
Come out and show once again how Saugeen Shores supports its local sports heroes by cheering them on.
The athletes will travel west down Gustavus to north on Bruce Street, along Bruce to Biener Drive, east to Waterloo and south on Waterloo to Gustavus again – not once, not twice but 15 times in six minute laps to complete the 42km marathon beginning at 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
