The Town of Saugeen Shores is holding an Open House session to celebrate its new Heritage and Cultural Inventory designed to preserve the information and resources listed on its current Heritage Registry.
The session will provide information on the Provincial Heritage Designation process, as well as the Saugeen Shores Municipal Heritage Property Plaque program.
With Council support, the Municipal Heritage Committee is establishing this inventory to preserve the information and resources listed on the Town’s current Heritage Register. Being included in the Inventory has no legal repercussions or requirements. Participating properties will continue to have heritage and cultural features documented and available publicly online.
The Town has, by letter, invited property owners already listed on the Register. Please contact the Town if you are a designated heritage property owner and have not received your letter.
The Town’s Cultural Heritage Master Plan process is expected to commence soon this year and proposed changes related to the Heritage Act will affect how municipalities identify and protect cultural heritage properties.
The changes will, in fact, mean that heritage registries must be reviewed and properties designated and, if not designated within two years, must be removed from the registry and cannot be re-instituted for five years and who knows what will happen in those five years.
