On February 21st, the Saugeen Shores Police embarked on a traffic enforcement initiative targeting distracted driving.
Officers were assigned to actively pursue violators and lay charges. The initiative concluded on March 6th.
Officers laid a total of seven charges for drivers using hand held communication devices Officers experienced a drop in persons in violating this law. A factor that may have influenced the lower numbers is the stiff penalty this offence carries. Upon conviction the total payable fine is $615 and three demerit points for a first offence.
Our officers have a strong presence in the realm of traffic enforcement in Saugeen Shores. We enforce all aspects of the Highway Traffic Act year round. Our traffic initiatives are in place to highlight and educate the public about areas of concern.
