Just days before Canada honours its workers, three more labour unions have given back to their community by making Home Run Donations to the Lamont Sports Park.
The three locals have each donated $10,000 to the park’s Phase 2.

The donations entitle each union to have a presence at the park for the next five years. The three unions will join UNIFOR as they hang their banners at Society Field, sponsored by the Society of United Professionals. They will also get a mention on the park’s Lifetime Donor Board.
“We are grateful to the unions’ membership for their generous donations,” said Campaign Co-Chair Rob Stanley. “Not only do these funds move us closer to our goal, but they also show the importance that organized labour plays in our community. We know our baseball and slo-pitch leagues are brimming with union members, and their children play in our minor baseball leagues. The Lamont Sports Park will be a healthy, inclusive space that members will enjoy for decades to come.”
Fittingly, the fundraising campaign is set to wrap up just after the Labour Day weekend. The committee continues to ask the public for donation as it seeks to build two youth ball diamonds, an accessible playground, two minor league batting cages, a storage facility, and a 200-person public pavilion.
The campaign plans to raise $1.5 million for the project’s second phase.
