Every August 1st long weekend for more than 20 years, Southampton Foodland has held its Lobster Fest, with fresh lobster flown in from Nova Scotia.
This year, more than 800 lobsters were pre-ordered with most of them cooked by Foodland staff on-site on Saturday, July 30th.

While some customers took their lobsters home to cook, others waited patiently and enjoyed the live entertainment by ‘The Al Show’, while their lobsters were cooked on-site at the store.
The bustling weekend continued on Sunday, July 31st, when Maple Leaf’s ‘Top Dogs’ arrived.
The BBQ, by donation, was in support of the Marine Heritage Society that runs tours to the local Chantry Island and also maintains the Island’s lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarters. “We try to give back to the community whenever we can,” said Foodland owner, Martino Catalano, “and the Marine Heritage volunteers do a great job of maintaining the historic lighthouse.”
While customers enjoyed a barbecued hot dog or smokie, they also sat and enjoyed the entertainment by the duo Katrina Strong and Brandon Marlow of ‘The Sweetheart Band’, who play at a wide variety of venues (contact: 519-379-9998).
