Before night fall yesterday, March 1st (2023), the sunset over Lake Huron was remarkable as it often is and was captured by local photographer Nan Marie Wismer.
Following the sunset a the sky turned dark, the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter and could be seen in the night sky.Venus, the most illuminated planet, and Jupiter, the gas giant, looked as though they were nearly touching, separated by less than one degree in the night sky. In actual fact, they are actually 400 million miles apart.
Conjunctions occur when two planets, a planet and a star, or a planet and the Moon appear from Earth to be nearly grazing each other. Venus and Jupiter converge just over once every year.
