While the Stay-at-Home order remains in effect, the Province of Ontario has allowed for the reopening of certain outdoor recreational amenities effective May 22, 2021.
In accordance with the Province’s announcement, the Town of Saugeen Shores will open all allowed public outdoor recreational amenities with appropriate restrictions in place. These amenities include sports fields and courts, the skate park and BMX park.
While these amenities will be open, the public is reminded that they are to be used for essential purposes such as exercise only as required by the Provincial Stay-at-Home order, and physical distancing is required. No team sports, recreational classes, or games that would result in coming within two metres of one another are permitted. Amenities that were previously open such as parks, trails, beaches, playgrounds and boat launches continue to be available for essential use only.
“It’s great to see outdoor recreational amenities opening back up,” says Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “These amenities provide an excellent opportunity for our community to enjoy the outdoors safely while performing essential activities allowed under the Stay-at-Home order such as exercise.”
Also effective May 22nd, outdoor limits for social gatherings and organized public events will be expanded to five people including with members of different households. This increase will allow outdoor recreational amenities to be used for essential purposes by up to five people with a reminder that physical distancing is still required between members of different households.
All other public health and workplace safety measures under the province-wide emergency brake will remain in effect.
