As in 2020, the Patio Fee will be waived for the season, which runs from April 1 to October 30. The waiving of the fee and a revision to include retail businesses to the Sidewalk Patio and Sidewalk Café Encroachment Policy have been approved by Council in an effort to support local business.

“We want to help businesses overcome the challenges of the pandemic and make this process as easy as possible,” says Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “With warmer weather on the way and COVID-19 protocols in place, extra patio space is a great way for any business to increase their capacity.”

Those interested in applying or learning more can contact the Town of Saugeen Shores Economic Development Officer at heather.hyde@saugeenshores.ca. Applications may be submitted anytime during the season and only businesses looking to use Town property for their patio need to apply. The full Sidewalk Patio and Sidewalk Café Encroachment Policy can be found at www.SaugeenShores.ca/PatioPolicy.

Patio installations may also be eligible for Bruce County’s Spruce the Bruce Grant program under the Facade Improvement and Patio Grant. More information on the grant program can be found at www.sprucethebruce.ca.
