Saugeen Times and our other publications are pleased to be able to try and help our four-legged friends find loving homes through our new ‘Pet of the Week’.
They are currently housed at the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter, which can be a permanent home given its ‘no-kill’ policy and caring volunteers however, there is nothing like a loving home environment.
Many of them, like humans, are older. It’s always easier for the cute, fluffy and young ones to be adopted but the more mature, for some reason, are not as ‘wanted’. Why is that when those who have been there the longest are often more appreciative of a loving home?
Take Sylvie for instance. She is 10-11 years old, spayed and vaccinated. She may be initially nervous of people and take a little time to settle in but with her age comes wisdom and she is tolerant and good with other cats.
The Shelter says ” … choose to offer a safe place for pets that have no choices left.” Sometimes, their owners have had no choice either. They, too, may have aged and have to move into a facility where their loved companions are not allowed or, in the final step of life, may have died leaving their pets behind. Whatever the reason, these faithful friends have no choice but to wait … wait for someone new to take them in and love them.
