Thank you to everyone who helped plan, attend and participate in our police week event held on May 18th 2023.
This year’s provincial theme was “Building Bridges: Celebrating Police-Community Partnerships”. Police Week provided us with the opportunity to welcome our community partners to our station to promote and educate the public on the great work being done in our community. The event emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration between our police service and community partners to support a holistic approach to service delivery and response efforts. It also highlighted and celebrated the important role our members play in community safety, and the vital relationships we have with our community members.
Events like this don’t just happen. A very special thank you to all of our Police Services Board for promoting and supporting the event, and our community partners including the Saugeen Shores Rotary Club, Crime Stoppers, Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), Victim Services, Town of Saugeen Shores (bicycle safety & button machine), Association members (Doug Lein – history of policing), Special Olympics, 98 the Bruce, and the Saugeen Times (Sandy).
Thank you to the Town of Saugeen Shores and staff for helping us prepare for the event by sweeping the parking lot, cutting the lawn and tending to the flowerbeds. Thank you to Cst. Stacey Gordon who was instrumental in the planning process and helped set everything up as we were busy dealing with calls for service. Everyone together made this a very successful event!
The cash donations collected by the Rotary Club will benefit our local Special Olympics, and the food donations will benefit our local food banks. I will share the results with everyone when everything is resolved.
Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank our Police Service members for their participation in the event, and embracing the opportunity to actively participate and interact with the community. Hockey with the Special Olympics was a blast, and something that I hope we can continue well into the future. I had a great afternoon, and loved seeing the smiles and laughs as everyone participated in the events.
I am very proud of our police service and community, and thank everyone for supporting this event.
Chief Kevin Zettel,
Saugeen Shores Police
