According to sources, the plane had been on-loan from the owner. It had apparently circled the Port Elgin airport and then upon coming in from an easterly direction to land, it crashed, ending up on its roof.
There were two people on board at the time who managed to extricate from the plane. Althouthd neither sustained any serious injuries they were taken to the local Saugeen Memorial hospital for observation.
According to Saugeen Shores Fire Chief, Phil Eagleson, “Transport Canada investigated the incident and determined that the cause of the crash was “catastrophic mechanical failure” and that weather was not a factor.”
