Port Elgin Ward incumbent experienced in municipal and volunteer committees

I have filed my nomination papers for this fall’s municipal election to continue to represent the Port Elgin Ward of Saugeen Shores.
I have been on Council since April and have voted for more attainable and affordable housing, and developments that will enhance our community. I researched and discussed at Council accessibility, affordability, economic development, recreation and leisure and community projects for our residents and visitors alike that are what has been asked for in public meetings and in Recreation and Waterfront Masterplans.
I want to make sure all ages and incomes are represented at the Council table and in discussions and decisions.
I always answer emails and phone calls no matter where in Saugeen Shores you live.  I love helping people get the answers they want, need and deserve!
Since returning to my hometown several years ago, I have always worked to improve and promote our community of Port Elgin and Saugeen Shores.
EXPERIENCE FOR THE JOB: (and it is a job)
For those who may not be aware, I have volunteered and gained professional experience I can use on Council with the following community involvement, municipal and individual business, event promotion and professional experience:
Municipal Committees:
I have been on FIVE municipal committees and have a vast knowledge of how they and the municipality operate:
  • Accessibility Ad-Hoc Committee – 10 years
  • Attainable Housing Task Force  – January 2020 to February 2021
  • Waterfront Master Plan Ad-Hoc Committee – 3 years
  • Economic Development Ad-Hoc Committee – 2 years
  • Olympic Torch Visit & Celebration Adhoc Committee – 1 year

Local Groups/Committees:

  • Port Elgin Pumpkinfest – 10 years
  • Huron Fringe Birding Festival – 3 years
  • Saugeen Shores Relay For Life
(Canadian Cancer Society Fundraiser) – 3 years
  • Chantry Island Chambettes – 5 years
  • Tourism
  • Lake Huron Shoreline Tourism Partners – Regional Tourism Committee – 10 years
  • Ontario SuperHost Trainer – 1997 to present
  • Canadian Big Band Celebration – 10 years
  • Co-Creator “Wild For The Arts” Free Art Festival – MacGregor Point Provincial Park w/Friends of MacGregor Point Provincial Park – 5 years
  • International Lighthouse Conference Coordinator
    – Southampton   2005 – 2006
Professional Experience:
I have been a Public Relations and Marketing professional since 1983 helping small businesses, entrepreneurs, and corporations gain visibility and increased revenue.
I was fortunate enough to also work in Southampton for four years promoting and marketing our Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre and it’s beautiful setting – Southampton!  I loved promoting, exploring this amazing Town and meeting Southampton’s residents and local business owners.
I am proud to say I have worked for the Port Elgin Chamber of Commerce and then the Saugeen Chamber of Commerce for six years for over 400+ businesses as this area’s first Tourism Coordinator.
Also as Marketing Director and Media Relations for Port Elgin Pumpkinfest for 10 years, I saw this event go from a small local event in a parking lot with 2,500 local residents and giant vegetable growers to attracting 60,000 people and gaining world wide attention!  The economic impact for our local businesses was – and still is incredible!
There is no better feeling for me than helping others and also helping my community.
Re-electing me to Council ensures that all business owners, and residents of all ages and incomes, will have someone to represent them at the municipal level, someone who is looking to the future and what your needs are today and in the future.
If you have questions I can help you to get answers.  I can’t guarantee we will always like the answers and results – but I can explain to you the ‘why(s)’ and ‘how(s)’ of decisions that are made and also help you to get your voice and concerns heard by working together for the future of our community.
