Public invited to virtual meeting for Attainable Housing

The Town of Saugeen Shores is holding a public launch event for its Attainable Housing Task Force on Thursday, September 17 at 7:00 pm. The event will be a virtual meeting, which the public can attend online by registering at SaugeenShores.ca/AttainableHousing.

The launch will be co-moderated by Bruce Power’s James Scongack, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Affairs & Operational Services and Task Force member Brian Longmire. The Task Force will give an update on the work happening in the community towards planning for more affordable and attainable housing.

“Our Attainable Housing Task Force has been studying the cost of rental units and purchase options for entry level homes in Saugeen Shores,” says Attainable Housing Chair and Vice-Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt. “We are united in our efforts to support the creation of housing geared towards residents of all ages and incomes looking for more affordable options.”

Currently there are nearly 600 applicants on the Bruce County Community Housing Registry Waitlist, more than 300 of whom are waiting for affordable housing in Saugeen Shores.

“Having suitable and affordable housing for all in our community is a priority for our municipality,” said Myatt. “When workers can live in town, businesses will find it easier to hire and retain employees.”
