It’s October 1st (2022) and, in Saugeen Shores, it means the beginning of the award-winning Pumpkinfest celebration.
With Goderich Street blocked off for the OLG Cinderella Classic Car show, it becomes a pedestrian way where visitors can take their time strolling the downtown of Port Elgin.
A block away is the midway, perfect for those with little ones and, in the Missionary Church (old arena) is the event everyone waits for every Fall – the weigh-off of the giant vegetables, especially the pumpkins, squash and cabbage.
Start the day off with a hearty breakfast served up by the Rotary Club of Saugeen Shores. Delicious pancakes and sausages with maple syrup is on the menu and then, starting at 11:00 a.m., stop by again for a BBQ lunch.
Looking for a place to sit and relax? Take in the Bruce Telecom Entertainment tent where, throughout the entire day, there is entertainment for every age. For the young and young-at-heart, there is the puppet master, Tim the Puppet Tamer and for the adults in the crowd, in the afternoon the music begins and a fresh ‘beverage’ can be enjoyed in the licensed venue.
It’s time to head for downtown Port Elgin and take in the popular Pumpkinfest celebration starting today, Saturday, and continuing through Sunday.
