Hanna Van Stuyvenberg of Teeswater has been crowned Bruce County’s Queen of the Furrow for 2022-23 and will represent Bruce County for the next year and compete at the International Plowing Match in Peel Dufferin in 2023.
She was crowned at the 2022 Bruce County Plowing match that was held on Friday, September 2nd (2022) at the farm of Steve and Bert Ernewein in Chepstow (ON).
Van Stuyvenberg is an elite athlete and member of the Saugeen Track and Field Club (STFC), where she trained with coach Randy Miller in ‘throws’, that include the discus, and where she plans to become a coach herself.
As part of the competition for the Queen of the Furrow title, she had to give a prepared speech, an impromptu response and, of course, complete the furrow ploughing competition.
Van Stuyvenberg made a stop on Saturday, October 1st (2022) at the Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores) Pumpkinfest, where she took in the official weigh-off of the giant vegetables.
