Readers return from Portugal – in day four of self-isolation

To the Editor:

Sandy, Thank you so much for continuing to publish our local news. You cannot know how important it is to us when we are travelling outside Saugeen Shores. The first click of the computer or phone is always Saugeen Times to catch up on local news. It makes us feel like we really never left.

It is now day 4 of self-isolation and since returning to Canada, we are simply amazed at the kindness and ingenuity of our local businesses. Today, we ordered lunch from Rabbit Dash and groceries from Foodland in Southampton. Thanks to the volunteers from Southampton Rotary, almost everything we ordered arrived at our doorstep.

We are so appreciative for our friends and family who continually kept in touch with us when we were trying to return from Portugal. When we finally arrived home Monday night we found a grocery bag on our front porch with milk, bread and eggs, everything we needed to get us started – thanks Mari Carmen & Scot.

Everyone please, please heed the recommendations of the authorities making sure you maintain safe distances, wash your hands and self-isolate when suggested. Believe me, we were too close to the action when we were in Europe. You cannot believe how quickly this virus multiplies and spreads. If we don’t want to become another Spain or Italy, we must practice social distancing and self-isolation.
