The Repair Café, in collaboration with the Georgian Bluffs Climate Action Team and the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library, proudly announced its opening on March 9th, 2024.
A community initiative, it invites residents to bring their broken items to the Owen Sound Public Library Auditorium every second Saturday of each month between the hours of 1pm and 4pm, where volunteers will be on hand to share skills and help people repair their broken items.
The Repair Café aims to reduce waste and contribute to a more sustainable community by keeping items out of landfill. From sewing to small appliance repair and electronics, the Repair Café offers a wide range of expertise to help breathe new life into cherished possessions. This initiative is a significant step towards building a greener, more connected community.
“We believe that by coming together and repairing instead of discarding, we can create a positive impact on the environment and foster a sense of community,” says Danuta Valleau, representative of the Repair Café.
The Repair Café is made possible by a dedicated group of volunteers committed to Climate Action. The Repair Café Team, the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library and the Georgian Bluffs Climate Action Team express their gratitude to the following companies for their contributions to the success of the Repair Café: Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce, Foodland Owen Sound, Ironwood Coffee Company, Boon Bakery and the Mission Thrift Store.
