Rotary – Teaching ‘Service above Self’ by helping nature

Building a bird house teaches a lot – about nature, about giving back to feathered friends, about how making something by hand that brings satisfaction – and, when it’s through Rotary, it’s about their motto ‘Service above Self’.

On Saturday morning, June 17th, at the Rotary Hall in Southampton, it was abuzz with building houses for birds.  All the pieces were pre-cut and youngsters were invited to build their own bird-houses.

Organized by Rotarian Lon Sinclair, more than dozen bird houses were created with some colourful ideas on what to paint them.

At the end of the workshop, each participant went home with his/her bird house and a guide on what type of birds would likely be attracted to make it their home.
