S.S. Trolley Services Suspended for 2020 Season

The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce (SSCC) is announcing that tourism attraction, the S.S. Trolley, will be suspended for the 2020 season.

This difficult decision was reached after reviewing current recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The health and safety of the S.S. Trolley riders and drivers is the top priority for the SSCC.

The S.S. Trolley in previous years has made daily tours between Port Elgin and Southampton. Riders had the opportunity to explore stops along the route that featured beautiful scenes, downtown shops and other significant locations in Saugeen Shores.

SSCC President, Steve Harris says that, “While this is disappointing for the SSCC, we will continue to develop events, projects and programs for the Saugeen Shores community that follow health and safety recommendations as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Kimberley Inniss-Petersen, Executive Director of the SSCC supports the Board’s decision, adding, “There would be no reasonable way to operate the Trolley without jeopardizing the health and safety of riders and the drivers. My own children depend on the Trolley to get around during the summer; I understand the impact this has on our community.”

The SSCC encourages residents to shop local and remember that Saugeen Shores businesses need their support more now than ever. “There are many options for shopping and dining in both of our vibrant downtowns,” says Inniss-Petersen, “we are truly fortunate to have such amenities locally!”
