Sargent & Lundy, a 132-year-old engineering firm whose corporate history almost tracks that of electricity generation itself, has become the first company to join the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) in its newly created “Supporters” category, bringing its expertise in power generation and transmission to NII’s project capabilities.
The move also strengthens NII’s ability to deliver community programming, from NII Explore’s STEM education classes to local environmental projects and skilled trades development, reflecting Sargent & Lundy’s longstanding commitment to community engagement.
A Chicago-based company that manages power and energy projects around the world, Sargent & Lundy has been active in the Bruce, Grey and Huron region for more than 20 years.
“The Nuclear Innovation Institute is a natural fit for Sargent & Lundy, as their mission aligns perfectly with two of our deeply rooted core values: innovation and making a meaningful impact in the communities where we work and live,” said James Muraida, Vice President and Project Director for Sargent & Lundy, based in Kincardine.
“We see nuclear energy as a force for good in the world, and we are excited to work with NII to do our part.”
With the company’s wealth of industry knowledge and experience in electric grid infrastructure services and nuclear power projects, Sargent & Lundy performs a full range of design engineering and engineering support—helping drive the clean energy transition in 101 countries from North America to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

And it carries on through life-long learning programs, some of which will take place at our new applied research and training hub in Kincardine, at which NII and its partners aim to expand the regional capacity for training in skilled trades and new technologies.”
Those NII programs have been fully sponsored to date by NII’s Founding Members: Bruce Power, BWXT Canada, Cameco, E.S. Fox, Kinectrics, and SNC-Lavalin.
The “Supporters of NII” category was created this year to allow more companies to participate in NII’s innovation and education mission at a level of investment below Founding Membership status.
