Social Athletics of Saugeen Shores (SASS) has always strived to be a positive, contributing member of the Saugeen Shores community. Our community members have always helped support us, so we are doing what we can for our community members in need.
Many sports seasons and other events have been cut short or cancelled during the Covid-19 pandemic. The SASS DodgeBall and Ladies Indoor Volleyball leagues both had their seasons cut short.
During our executive meeting after cancelling the seasons, the discussion turned to refunds for our teams. One executive member proposed making a donation on behalf of SASS to the local food bank and asking if our teams would like their refunds included in the donation instead of getting the money back. Thankfully, 33 of our 38 teams decided to donate their refunds. What a great gesture from our teams.
The donation from the teams amounted to $3300. As the executive of SASS we decided to make a donation from our league funds of $1700 for a total of $5000.
Thanks again to our team captains for helping us with this donation. Hopefully this can help many local families get through this difficult time.
