Saugeen First Nation appears to be in an outbreak

In a recent announcement, Saugeen First Nation’s Chief Lester Anoquot announced that there may be 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19 at reserve #29.

All businesses, the Women’s Shelter, Day Care are to remain closed until further notice and everyone is asked to stay at home and observe all health guidelines and to continue to wear masks in public and stay self-isolated.

“Although the OPP will maintain patrols we are not anticipating laying charges at this point,” says Chief Anoquot.  “Unfortunately, some people are not taking this seriously.  We are saying maintain distancing, avoid local interaction with others, follow the protocols of washing your hands and wear masks.”

A Band Council meeting will be held on Monday, June 28th to process what Chief Anoquot says is an awkward situation, particularly, as the rest of the province is re-opening.

“Most of our people. have been vaccinated but those who haven’t appear to be those who have contracted the variant,” says the Chief.  “We will keep everyone up to date.”
