Saugeen Shores Fire Service answers call to plane crash

Saugeen Shores Fire Department answered an unusual call for Saugeen Shores on Friday, August 7th (2020).

A Cessna aircraft was about to land at the Port Elgin airport when it crashed.  The airport is located on the West side of Hwy. 21 however, the plane crashed on the East side before making it to the airport.

Fire Chief Phil Eagleson said that there were two people aboard the plane.  “Miraculously, there were no serious injuries but the two people were taken to Saugeen Memorial Hospital to be checked out and they were not from the area.”

It was a clear, calm day so that weather was believed not to be a factor.  Eagleson added that the Ministry of Transportation would be conducting an investigation as to the cause of the crash.
