Saugeen Shores Police welcomes a new experienced member

As of Monday, April 24th (2023), Saugeen Shores Police Service has a new member who was officially welcomed on Thursday, April 27th at a ceremony held at Police headquarters in Port Elgin.

Constable Derek King is an experienced officer who comes from several years of service in Hanover.  Born and raised in Wiarton, King is a local Bruce Grey resident familiar with the geography and demographics of the region.

King was surrounded by family as his wife, two sons and parents attended the ceremony that began with Chaplain David Baker initiating with a prayer and welcome.  “We serve the community as best we can while always maintaining that mental health is very important and our police family is always there for each other.”

Chief Kevin Zettel said that his service is “… big on on-going training and initiatives that offer opportunity.  We want our officers to have character and we want to develop their talents.  It’s also important when we have an experienced officer join us that we want to meet the family and have the family see where their member will be working.”

 

Pat O’Connor, Chair of the Police Services Board and, as Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb’s Constituency Manager, brought greetings and presented a certificate on behalf of the MP.  “You will be enriched and equipped with great purpose and, with that comes great responsibility that you must never lose site of in service. We know you will move very confidently as you carry out your duties fairly and equitably always. Mr. Lobb congratulates you in your vocation and knows that you will be successful.”

Saugeen Shores’ Deputy Mayor, Diane Huber, also brought greetings on behalf of the Mayor, Council and residents.  “Thank you for choosing Saugeen Shores.  We know that you will find a breadth of opportunity and activity and that you will have a rewarding career with us here in Saugeen Shores.”

 

     Sgt. Adam Sachs

King will be working with Platoon Sgt. Adam Sachs.  “We are a small group but we are good, well-trained and work together like family.  We very much look forward to Constable King joining us.”

 

“I am super excited for the opportunity to start with Saugeen Shores Service,” said Constable King. “I look forward to good times here in the future.”
