For more than three generations, Vi Cottrill has been the #1 fan and cheerleader for all sports in Saugeen Shores.

Everyone connected with hockey, baseball, soccer and even bowling, knows that Vi Cottrill is also a fountain of knowledge. She has known and remembers all the players, the teams and the statistics for minor and adult teams alike for many years.
Unable to drive, she has walked hundreds of kilometers/miles over the decades to attend almost every game in arenas and parks in the area. Whether it’s senior or minor sports teams playing, whether it’s a tournament or regular play, Vi is invariably there, regardless of the weather.

She has been recognized on many occasions, including dropping the puck for season openers of the Saugeen Shores WOAA Senior Men’s Winterhawks hockey while wearing her special team sweater presented by the organization.
Those athletes who have grown up in Saugeen Shores instantly recognize and appreciate their many fans but, especially, their number one ‘die-hard’ fan … Vi Cottrill.

Vi has a zest for life that many could learn from … she has walked for Cancer research, volunteered at Elgin Lodge Retirement Home, faithfully attends Canada Day celebrations and is a big supporter of the Rail Trail Association.

In 2015, hundreds of people attended her 80th birthday held at Port Elgin United Church where she is a member. Those attending were amazed at the memorabilia that she has collected over the decades.

This year’s birthday will definitely be different with all sports events now closed. However, those wishing to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY VI, can drop off a card at Gord’s Imprints & Designs at 685 Goderich Street in Port Elgin.
