Saugeen District Senior School Royals Big Band under the direction of Kerrie Lynn Matheson Boys just won first place in the 22nd Annual OFMA Provincial School Band Festival with their selections of ‘Watermelon Man and Tank’.

The band entered the Grey County Kiwanis Music Festival in April where they received a ‘Diamond standing’ following which they received an invitation to the Provincial Festival. After attending the Festival of Stars in Owen Sound, the group also received a major financial scholarship.
“We sent in recordings to the OMFA (Ontario Music Festivals Association) in the Grades 9 to 12 category for Jazz bands across Ontario,” said music Director Kerrie-Lynn Matheson Boys, “and were shocked to discover on June 3rd that we won first place with our selection of ‘Come Fly with Me’.”
Once again, the SDSS Musical Theatre class is about to present its annual musical production. This year, the production is The Addams Family-A New Musical. A live orchestra of former music teachers, SDSS alumni and music students will be in the ‘orchestra pit’.
