According to sources, one of Saugeen Shores’ senior doctors is closing his practice effective June 30th (2024).
In a recent letter to his patients, Dr. David Billings said that the reasons are “many and complex and it was not a decision made lightly”.
Dr. Billings, MD CCFP (EM) completed his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in 1996 and Doctor of Medicine degree in 2000 at Memorial University in Newfoundland. He then went on to complete the Residency Program of the Canadian College of Family Physicians with an additional year of Certification of Special Competency in Emergency Medicine at Queen’s University. He is a member of the Canadian Medical Association, Ontario Medical Association, Grey Bruce Rural Medical Society, Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians, Canadian College of Family Physicians and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
He also said in his letter that it is with mixed emotions and acknowledgement of the significant impact that it will have on his patients.
Dr. Billings has apparently spoken with other doctors in the community however, none of them are in a position to take on more patients at this time of crisis in Family Medicine.
According to some of Dr. Billings’ patients, “He’s a very good doctor and will be missed in the community,”
