Southampton Arts is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a Kids Can Play grant by the Community Foundation of Grey Bruce.

Kids Can Play Community Grants support programs and projects that encourage play for youth in Grey Bruce.

“We asked local kids to consider what it means to live in the community of Saugeen Shores and then to paint about it. As part of a grant from the Community Foundation of Grey Bruce, Southampton Arts has supplied several classrooms with paint, canvas and brushes. We are excited to showcase the unique perspective that our kids have when it comes to their community.”

Local school students, from Saugeen Shores and Saugeen 29 First Nation, will have the opportunity to create works of art, in their classrooms, with the theme of community. Students will be supplied with canvas, paint, brushes and other art supplies.

Completed works of art will be framed and displayed in the Police Services headquarters, Southampton Arts Centre, and the Southampton Public Library. Members of the community, and the artists, will then be invited to receptions exhibiting the works at each of the three venues. We intend to create a video to document the process, from the classrooms’ creative activity to the completed installations. The video will be available to schools and will be shown at Southampton Arts Centre.
