The Southampton BIA commissioned the development of a High Street Renewal Plan from John MacDonald Architect of Kitchener. Now we invite your input on the Plan prior to presenting it to Saugeen Shores Council in the weeks ahead.

The Plan was initiated to address concerns regarding the condition of infrastructure such as hydro, sewer, asphalt, and sidewalks along with safety concerns and opportunities for pertinent cultural and art installations and overall beautification.

The BIA hopes that High Street improvement will become a municipal priority and that some of the concepts within the Plan can be incorporated when High Street’s infrastructure is addressed. The BIA is pleased that the Town has already allocated funds for a formal Parking Study for Southampton and Port Elgin this summer.

“We have an opportunity to improve Southampton’s Downtown infrastructure and create enhanced shopping and dining experiences along with safe cycling and pedestrian movement. This plan will enable us to achieve this.”, says Bruce Martin who headed up the sub-committee overseeing the development of the Plan.

Sara Porter, BIA Chair says, “We believe this Plan will serve all of Southampton’s businesses, residents and visitors. We feel this plan will not only maintain, but enhance the small town charm we all love. We look forward to hearing from Residents on Saturday, May 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. noon, when they come to the Southampton Town Hall to see the Plan and speak with the Committee and representatives from the Town.”
