Southampton prepares for annual holiday celebrations

The Southampton Christmas tree was once again decorated by local G. C. Huston Public School Grade Kindergarten and Grade 1 public school students.

Each year, the students create hand-crafted ornaments that adorn the local tree at Southampton Town Hall before the official tree lighting.

Later than evening, despite a misty almost rainy evening, Southampton’s Christmas tree lighting went ahead as people gathered at the Town Hall square.

The Celtic Dance Academy Canada dancers performed with their traditional high-stepping and intricate dance steps despite wet conditions.

The Chantry Singers performed a variety of Christmas songs and invited the crowd to join in the traditional music.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau, who officially lit the tree along with ‘helpers’, reminded everyone to give to those less fortunate in the community over the holidays.
