In November of what is now last year (2022), Southampton Rotary held its 19th Annual Dinner Auction at the Walker House in Southampton.
Each year, the Rotary Club raises funds through the Auction which is donated to a selected charitable cause. The Club pledged that the funds of the 2022 event will go toward the purchase of a replacement horse for PRANCE, Pegasus Riding Association Nurturing Challenged Equestrians.
In the past year, PRANCE lost horses due to age. The horses are chosen specifically for their temperament and personalities to be able to work with challenged riders and are often of a senior age, where they can live out their remaining days at the PRANCE facility.
According to past-President Tony Sheard, “The net proceeds for the evening were in excess of $42,000. The ‘Fund a Need’ component alone raised $10,000 and Bruce Power generously agreed to match it with a donation of $10,000 so that, instead of acquiring one horse for PRANCE, we may be able to purchase a second one.”
On December 21st (2022), members of the Rotary Club had the chance to meet their pledge, ‘King’, a handsome Fjord-Percheron cross. A Fjord horse is used extensively in riding schools and riding for the handicapped programs and King’s temperament is ideally suited for PRANCE riders. The monies raised at the Rotary event will assist with the purchase of King and his needed equipment in addition to the purchase of a second horse in the Spring.
