Southampton Sparkles as the holiday season begins

Sparkles in Southampton began for the holiday season with the annual lighting of the town Christmas tree.

Despite it being the usual blustery night in November with winds blowing in from Lake Huron, a crowd gathered to be part of the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Southampton Town Hall.

The warm smell of popcorn wafted from the Southampton Rotary Club stand and the Chantry Singers added their renditions of traditional holiday music.

What everyone gathered for however, was the annual lighting of the Christmas tree.  Mayor Luke Charbonneau, professed to not having the required skill for tree lighting and, therefore, called on a young person in the crowd to help out.  Andie Fernandez stepped forward and, as Mayor Charbonneau counted down, she pulled the switch to ON and the tree lit up.
