Southampton structure fire dealt with quickly

Saugeen Shores Fire, Police and EMS services quickly responded to a structure fire on Sunday afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m. in Southampton.

Saugeen Shores Police Services closed street entrances to traffic at Turner St. (Foodland) and South Rankin Street at Hwy. 21 as the air filled with smoke.

 

A cottage on South Rankin Street overlooking the Saugeen River apparently caught fire.

(R) Chief Ed Melanson discusses fire situation     with his crew

According to Fire Chief Ed Melanson, who was on the scene, “A lone occupant had smoke inhalation issues but no one else was injured.”

The Chief said that fire services would remain on-site to deal with any hot spots and the cause was, as yet, unknown.
