The 37th annual Port Elgin Super Spiel was to have had an international flavour this year with teams expected from China and Korea.
Unfortunately, it was announced today (Nov. 15) that the teams are unable to be part of the competition.
Their plans were to spend five weeks in Canada participating in a number of competitive bonspiels starting with Port Elgin. Their travel visas have not yet been approved however, so they were not able to make their planned flights to Canada.
While it is disappointing that these two international teams will not be participating there is still a great lineup of curling teams. Among the 18 teams still participating 7 of the top 14 ranked Ontario Teams will be participating as well as some of the best local teams in the Grey Bruce area.
Last year’s winner and 5th ranked team on the Ontario Curling Tour, Wayne Tuck, will be back with other top-ten Ontario teams of Mark Brice and Pat Ferris. Local teams include Al Hutchison and Joey Rettinger.
Spectators are welcome all weekend. Curling starts Friday morning, November 16th at the Port Elgin Curling Club and runs until the final Sunday afternoon on November 18th.
