The Caring Benches – by Larry McIntosh

by Larry McIntosh

Don’t forget about these blue benches, one in Port Elgin at Coulter Parkette and another in Southampton by the town hall.

As you can see, they were donated by the CFUW (Canadian Federation of University Women).

They are for someone to sit at and maybe someone else (maybe someone you know or maybe a stranger) will come and sit with you. You might both sit in silence but hopefully, one of you starts a conversation.

The conversation could be about anything, it could be about the weather, good or bad, we are good about talking on this subject. Maybe, about the town, we are good solvers but stay away from politics and religion. The subject doesn’t really matter. They are there to help relieve some pressure and stress, to ease some pain.

I sat there today, alone. One nice lady said “Hello” as she was going by. If you can when going by, stop and have a conversation with the person sitting there. The thought is saying “Let’s Talk” OR you could be the person there saying “Come Join Me”. A lot of new friendships start by a brief conversation. You might only be there a few minutes or you might wonder how the time flew by.

Enjoy and share your day.
