Foodland’s Joy of Giving helps those in need

Southampton Foodland once again got into the Christmas spirit when it held its ‘Joy of Giving’ campaign to share with those in need.

During the month of December, customers were asked by cashiers if they wanted to add a little extra to the total on their grocery bill at time of checkout.

“Thanks to the generosity of our customers,” said owner Martino Catalano, “we are able to once again help our local Food Bank.  With our customers, we surpassed the amount raised last year and we’re able to help with $7,837.52, that will go to the Food Bank in the form of gift cards for groceries.”

“We are so pleased to receive this generous donation,” said Nikki Thompson, Senior Family Services Worker at Saugeen Shores Food Bank. “The need just keeps on growing and this community continues to be so supportive when it comes to helping others.”

Foodland also supports the Food Bank with its frozen meat program. “After only a few days on the shelf, if we don’t sell meat items, we quickly freeze them and donate it to the Food Bank,” explained Catalano. “It can be anything from steaks to roasts.”
