‘Tis the Season for ‘Shop with a Cop’

  AND THE WINNER IS …

Saugeen Central School!

   (L) Marwan Bayoumei, Officer Chantal         Primeau, Madi Boissoin-Raven and Scott            Rowland of Rowland’s Independent

The annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ excursion thanks to Southampton Rotary, Rowland’s Independent Grocers and Saugeen Shores Police, took place on Saturday, December 8th.

Each year, before Christmas, local Police get together with area grade six students to grocery shop for the Food Bank at Rowland’s Independent Grocers in Port Elgin.

Two students from each elementary school team up with an officer to fill a cart in 30 minutes with groceries.  The goal?  To not exceed $100.  The team that comes closest without going over receives an additional $100 from Rowland’s, but all four carts full of groceries go to the Food Bank.  Not only does it teach young students the value of giving but also teaches them how to shop economically and to recognize that the police are their friends.
