The total tipped the CT fundraising campaign to date to over $2.7 million of the three million dollar goal, which is anticipated to be reached with the upcoming Gran Fondo to be held in August.

The TOONIES for TOM campaign was a concept based on a 1947 FUNdraiser initiated by Southampton resident Marnie Cammidge, who at age 11, began the movement to have a local hospital.

On Sunday, June 12th (2022), the Rotary Club of Southampton hosted a fun event called TOONIES for TOM. In collaboration with the Town of Saugeen Shores, High Street in Southampton was closed to traffic from Albert St. (Hwy. 21) to Grosvenor St. for the day and became a pedestrian fun ‘way’ with music, games and activities for all ages, that required ‘toonies’ to play.

The concept was to collect enough ‘toonies’ that, when laid in a line, would stretch from the Southampton Flag on the Lake Huron shoreline at the foot of High St. to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital.

The fun day was a resounding success with more than $15,000 collected, but with the TOONIES for TOM campaign continuing through to Canada Day, July 1st, the final TOONIE total that rang in was the astounding $20,002.

“Once again we have to thank this incredible community for its support of our local hospital,” said James Scongack, Chair of the Bring TOM to Town CT Scanner fundraising campaign, “and helping to ensure that we have the latest technology in equipment when it comes to providing local health care.”
