The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre has given history a voice from the past with its all new “Cultural Hosts” tour. Take a step back in time and discover historical stories about Bruce County as shared by eight notable residents – representing each of the County’s eight municipalities – including early settlers, everyday people, and influential historians.
All you’ll need to enjoy the “Cultural Hosts” tour is your smart phone or smart device and a pair of earphones. With a quick scan of a QR code, you’re off on a journey through the past.
In the Museum’s lobby, Artist David Milne will welcome you by providing details about the Museum and the “Cultural Hosts” tour. Chesley native, Howard Krug, who was a conservation and forestry enthusiast will teach you about the tropical past of Bruce County.
Tessie Greig, the first female warden of Bruce County, reveals how technology developed over time and shaped the County.
“This new digital tour further enhances visitors’ experiences at the BCM&CC, and also shares our stories in an accessible way for all to learn more about Bruce County,” says Cathy McGirr, Director, Museum & Cultural Services.
Other hosts include: Richard Guinn, one of Bruce County’s original settlers; lighthouse keeper Captain George Currie; Matthew Soloman, a member of the 160th Bruce Battalion; William and Emily Douglas of Lucknow; and David Kennedy. Visitors will find the “Cultural Hosts” throughout the Museum’s exhibition hall.
