Town vies for $250,000 grand prize from Kraft Heinz Project Play

Mayor Luke Charbonneau and members of Council are calling on all community members, whether full-time or seasonal, to support the Town of Saugeen Shores’ nomination for the Kraft Heinz Project Play program.

If successful, the community would be awarded $250,000 to contribute to the development of Lamont Sports Park.

The Town recently acquired land for the development of an outdoor sports park at Lamont Pit, the decommissioned quarry at the south end of Port Elgin. Funds have been allocated for Phase 1 of the sports park project, which will include the construction of multiple sports fields. The proposed park would feature amenities for all ages in addition to sports fields, with discussions underway for new accessible trails and an accessible playground.

“Our objective is to be selected as one of the top four nominations across Canada in the Kraft Heinz Project Play program, which would allow Saugeen Shores to move to the next round for consideration,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “But we can only achieve this if our residents take part in supporting this exciting initiative online.”  The deadline for submissions is September 22nd, 2019.

The public is invited to submit their nominations in support of this proposal by visiting kraftheinzprojectplay.com and submitting a nomination story, sharing Saugeen Shores’ proposal on Twitter, and more.
