Walk for Memories important to local fundraiser

The month of May is special to Ernie Oliver of Saugeen Shores for three reasons.

First, he celebrates his birthday on May 9th.  Second, it is the anniversary of his mother’s death and, third, it is Alzheimer’s month.

“My mother died of Alzheimer’s,” says Oliver, “so each May I walk to fundraise for the Grey Bruce Alzheimer’s Society because all the money stays local.”

In 2018, he raised $1,800 and, in 2020, he raised $2,377.  This year, on the 10th anniversary of his mother’s death and, at only one week into the month of May, Oliver has already raised $3,000.  “This year, because it’s my mom’s 10th anniversary, I want to raise as much as possible in her memory.”

“People and businesses have been so generous,” he adds, “including the owner of Canadian Tire where I work, KnK Lawn Care, Independent Grocers, Shoppers Drug Mart and others, and people can also donate on-line.”

“I hope everyone comes out to the Walk that will be held at Fairy Lake in Southampton on May28th.”
