Willing to Listen – Bottle Drive Completed for WES for Youth Online

South Bruce Proud is a group of South Bruce residents who seek to be engaged, informed, and involved in the process of selecting a site for the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s (NWMO) Deep Geological Repository (DGR). We are neither for nor against the DGR; we are on the side of education, honesty, and integrity.

Willing to Listen (WTL) has just wrapped up a bottle drive with donations made to WES for Youth Online. May was Mental Health Awareness month, and the WTL organizers felt that they should come together to make a meaningful contribution to their community as a whole. With the ongoing pandemic, stay at home orders, schools being closed and our youth being largely isolated from their friends and extended family, they decided that WES for Youth was an appropriate and deserving organization. β€œThe COVID-19 Pandemic has been extremely trying on everyone. It is amazing to see all the community support Willing to Listen has, which became evident when we more than tripled our original goal of $500 and were able to donate over $1500 for this phenomenal cause,” says Sheila Whytock, co-founder of Willing to Listen.

β€œWe are so proud of our community for this great display of generosity. We owe a big thanks to Bevin and Donna at Ace Hardware for being so helpful throughout the month with our multiple returns,” says Larry Hayes, another co-founder of Willing to Listen.

Willing to Listen is a local South Bruce group of residents, with a stated goal of seeking information and education on the proposed-DGR from NWMO in their municipality. They seek to engage in the conversation between South Bruce Municipality, NWMO, and the community, to make an informed decision.
