Overtime once again delivered a heart breaker for the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks.
Corbin Bean scored 4:48 into overtime to give the Tillsonburg Thunder a 3-2 win in Game 4 of the WOAA Sr. “AA” quarterfinal series.
For the fourth consecutive game in this series, the Winterhawks gave up the opening goal of the game, as Kaine Geldart opened the scoring for Tillsonburg at 9:45 of the 1st.
Despite a high-octane opening frame, that was the only goal, despite the two teams combining for 37 shots on goal.
The Winterhawks came out flying in the 2nd period, scoring 26-seconds into the period on a goal by Blake Underwood, with assists to Miles MacLean and Lauchlin Elder.
Jeff Flagler was spectacular in the Winterhawks net, holding Tillsonburg at bay, allowing MacLean to spot his team to a 2-1 lead at 11:55 of the 2nd, with assists to Trevor Smith and Greg Thede.
The Winterhawks momentum ground to a halt moments after the goal when the fire alarm went off in the arena in Tillsonburg, causing a delay of about 20 minutes.
Once play resumed, the Winterhawks held off Tillsonburg to take a 2-1 lead to the 3rd period.
The Thunder pushed hard for the equalizer in the 3rd, as Flagler put on a show in the Winterhawks net.
The dam burst at 11:40 of the 3rd, as Eric Langridge scored against his hometown team to knot the score at 2-2.
Flagler made more saves, including a game saving stop at the buzzer to send the game to overtime, leading to the winner early in the extra frame.
Flagler made 46 saves for the Winterhawks, who were outshot 49-35 and now trail the series 3-1 and will be facing elimination when the series resumes on Friday night, February 21st.
